Products - ADSL

  What is ADSL?
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional modem. It does this by utilising frequencies that are normally not used by a voice telephone call, in particular, frequencies higher than normal human hearing. This signal will not travel very far over normal telephone cables, so ADSL can only be used over short distances typically less than 5 km. Once the signal reaches the telephone company's local exchange, the ADSL signal is stripped off and immediately routed onto a conventional Internet network, while any voice-frequency signal is switched into the conventional phone network. This allows a single telephone connection to be used for both ADSL and voice calls at the same time.

  > It is an "Always on" connection, which means that as soon as your computer has started up, you are connected - no dialing and no waiting!
  > Allows you to use your phone and the Internet at the same time.
  > There are no "dial-up" charges involved, so no local or STD call costs.
  > From 5 to 100 times faster than standard dial-up.

  Can I get ADSL?
Unfortunately ADSL is not available in all areas. Whether or not you'll be able to get ADSL depends on whether your telephone exchange is "ADSL-enabled". The form below will allow you to check whether or not you are able to get ADSL.

Please note that even though the check may come back positive, it is only a general check, and you still may not be able to get ADSL. Additional factors that will influence our ability to provide an ADSL service on your phone line include your distance from the exchange, the quality of your phone line, and even the type of phone connection (e.g. an ISDN service is not compatible with ADSL).
