What is ADSL? |
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional modem. It does this by utilising frequencies that are normally not used by a voice telephone call, in particular, frequencies higher than normal human hearing. This signal will not travel very far over normal telephone cables, so ADSL can only be used over short distances typically less than 5 km. Once the signal reaches the telephone company's local exchange, the ADSL signal is stripped off and immediately routed onto a conventional Internet network, while any voice-frequency signal is switched into the conventional phone network. This allows a single telephone connection to be used for both ADSL and voice calls at the same time.
It is an "Always on" connection, which means that as soon as your computer has started up, you are connected - no dialing and no waiting!
Allows you to use your phone and the Internet at the same time.
There are no "dial-up" charges involved, so no local or STD call costs.
From 5 to 100 times faster than standard dial-up.

Naked ADSL |
Naked ADSL refers to an ADSL broadband service delivered on a phone line without an active voice service. If you don't need your landline for calls, this can save you your line rental charge! Naked ADSL is available on some on-net phone exchanges. You can use the number checker above to determine if it's available to you. New customers can simply select the naked option when signing up. Existing customers unfortunately do not have a simple path to move to naked ADSL. The incumbent owner of the copper phone line dictates that the existing ADSL service be completely disconnected, then a new naked service ordered. This can leave you without internet service for up to 30 days in the worst-case scenario. If you would like to move to naked, contact us on 1300 66 55 75. |

1. ActivationBefore you can get online with ADSL, we need to connect your phone line to us! You'll need one of the following options, depending on your current situation. | Option | No Contract | 24 Month Contract | | New activation If you don't have an ADSL service already | $99.00 | FREE | | Rapid transfer If you're transferring from an existing ADSL provider | FREE | FREE | | Naked activation If activating a naked ADSL service | $120.00 | FREE |
2. Modem Options
To get online, you'll need an ADSL modem. As ADSL is a different technology to dial-up, an old dial-up modem simply won't work. You may already have a modem from a previous ADSL connection which you're welcome to use with us too, otherwise, check out our modem prices below.

3. Line Filters
ADSL line filters prevent the broadband signals from interfering with your phone calls, and vice-versa. You need a filter on every device that plugs into the phone line - not just phones, but also fax machines, security systems and back-to-base alarms... even EFTPOS machines!
One inline filter is included for free with any modem purchase; additional ones are priced as below. If you need more than three filters, we strongly recommend the installation of a Central Splitter.

Notes |
- "ADSL2+" will run at up to 24Mbps/1Mbps. "8Mbps" will run at up to 8Mbps/384Kbps. These are theoretical maximums - the speed you will receive is dependent on the length and quality of your phone line, your modem, and filters. The minimum guaranteed speed is 1.5Mbps/256Kbps.
- "Open Speed" plans will be ADSL2+ speeds in most cases. Some older phone exchanges do not support ADSL2+, so in these cases we will provide speeds of up to 8Mbps/384Kbps for the same price.
- Both uploaded and downloaded data will count towards your allowance. If you exceed your data allowance, the speed of your connection will be slowed to 64Kbps for the first 500MB in excess of the limit, and 32Kbps thereafter, until your monthly reset date.
- Prices shown as "when bundled" indicate the monthly cost of the broadband plan when you also purchase a home phone service from DCSI. It does not include the cost of the home phone service.
- Unused data from data blocks does not roll over to the next month - it will be forfeited on your reset date.
Minimum spend over 24 months
